The Good News Fellowship had its humble beginning in October 1980 when Church of God Missionary and at that time the North Luzon Regional Overseer, Rev. Fred Buser and his family, together with Mom Thelma Perry Marcum came to the Philippines and started work among students of Baguio City, together with children of Church of God Pastors and Elders. In faith, they leased a building at the corner of Otek and Cari?o Sts., which came to be known as the Good News Center, A Christian Dormitory and Student Centre where weekly Worship Services formed an integral part of the student activities.
In September 1982, Good News Fellowship came into being. Rev. Fred Buser chaired the first council of Elders together with the Dorm Pastor and three Businessmen coming from the same corporation as members. Earlier in 1982, few families, mostly friends of the three businessmen were added, holding regular Bible Studies as Sunday Worship services thus, the First official Church of God Church in Baguio City was born. The Fellowship zealously pursued its goal of adhering to the Great Commission and spreading the Good News of salvation. We started at Otek St., then moved to Quezon hill, then to T. Alonzo St., and finally to Quisumbing St. Trancoville, where we changed our name to Good News Community Church to pursue the goal of winning our City to Christ. We finally incorporated to Good News Worldwide Mission, Inc. in 2001 as we saw more ministries and assets added to the church.
Today, by God’s Grace, the Good News Community Church is enjoying the many blessings that God has given as it pursues the vision of winning Baguio City and La Trinidad, the Philippines, and the world to Jesus Christ. He has provided us with a property where we meet for trainings, seminars and other in-door activities. The basement and some of the rooms were formerly Student Dormitories but are now classrooms of Good News Academy a school recognized now by the Department of Education, using ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) curriculum. This is one of the ministries of the church, where future leaders of the country are being trained. We also been blessed to have other ministries such as Kids Club, Judgment Morning (Live Drama), Compassion, Phil’s., Great Life Resource Center, and Grandma Perry’s Home for Children (an orphanage). To honor the Lord, we strive to remain true to our mission statement of SEEKING, SCHOOLING, SERVING and SENDING. We have already sent missionaries abroad as far as Burkina Faso and Kenya in Africa, Thailand, Australia and Singapore. We have also been part of the works in Sri Lanka, Vietnam, China and South Africa. We have been reaching out locally, specifically in Philex Mines, Naguilian, La Union, Central and Western Pangasinan, Tarlac City and province, Calumpit, Bulacan and Dasmarinas, Cavite. We are sending localmissionaries’ especially in Central Vizayas to further our vision of winning the Nation for Christ.
